How do i use my OpenID?

In this section we will discuss what OpenID is, when you would use it and how you would use it. Please read on and learn more about this Demoxi feature.

What is Open ID?

OpenID is defined as an open, decentralized, internet-wide identity framework that lets you sign up on web pages without the need to create a 'Username' and 'Password'. Sites that are OpenID compliant list a field for your OpenID account instead of the regular 'Username' and Password login. The number of OpenID compliant sites is growing every day. For more information about what OpenID is and how to use it check out OpenID.net.

What is the difference between OpenID and my Demoxi ID?

As part of the Demoxi sign up, members are provided an OpenID user account as an added bonus feature. OpenID is a feature within the Demoxi system in that your Demoxi ID Username is your Open ID account. This means that when you register on Demoxi you can surf the web entering all OpenID complaint sites using your Demoxi Open ID account.

Further to this, there are sites that are deemed to be Demoxi partner sites. These have agreements where members do not even need to log in. Demoxi members will be allowed to log in to those sites without the need to remember a 'Username' and 'Password' and instead will be automatically logged in. OpenID compliant sites, on the other hand, will still require the typing of an OpenID account.

What is my specific OpenID?

Your OpenID is your Demoxi 'Username' followed by '.Demoxi.net.'. For instance, if your 'Username' was 'jsmith' your OpenID would be 'jsmith.Demoxi.net.'

When would I want to use my OpenID?

OpenID provides an additional option, other than Demoxi, of entering sites without the need to enter your 'Username' and 'Password'. Refer below for a working illustration of where and how you would use OpenID. A list of OpenID sites will be posted on the website shortly There are 2 choices in entering OpenID compliant web sites.

  1. Sign in once using your 'Username' and 'Password'. Demoxi will remember it and next time you return the Username and Password fields will automatically populated, or
  2. Type your OpenID account in the OpenID field provided. Demoxi will then remember this entry next time and every time you return to the site.

Please note that OpenID is new concept and while the sites listed as OpenID complaint may, on the one hand, immediately accept your OpenID Account, other sites may not and instead will require you to submit (once only) some additional information that will allow you to return and enter their sites.
